Children can get away with doing the best they can. We adults have a different standard: the best we want.<\/p>\n

With experience, maturity, contacts, education, wisdom, the internet, and most importantly, will power, \u201cdoing the best I can\u201d just doesn\u2019t cut it.<\/p>\n

Sure, we have our limits. In fact, knowing them is one of the emotional intelligence competencies of self-awareness. But we also know that those limits don\u2019t excuse us from\u00a0wanting<\/em>\u00a0something (and when we do, we exercise another emotional intelligence competency, achievement orientation).<\/p>\n

Whether it\u2019s to become a better parent, a stronger leader, an anti-racist, a good neighbor, or more emotionally intelligent\u2026if we don\u2019t\u00a0want<\/em>\u00a0it, nothing will happen. And when we do, we\u2019re often amazed at what does.<\/p>\n
